Summer Club Championship

The 2023 Summer Club Championship includes a variety of events to encourage all Dragons to take part. The main aim is a bit of friendly competition, fun and the chance to socialise with fellow Dragons. We will run on road, off road, on the flat, on hills and across a range of distances. Some events are larger mass participation events, others more local club races, and it even includes parkruns too so there really is something for everyone. Some events will be free and others will be part of a series which you would need to enter.

Any Dragon who runs in one of the selected events will be entered into a prize draw. Anyone who takes part in five or more events will be in the running for an award.

There is no need to ‘enter’ our championship – just take part in any (or all!) of the listed events then we’ll pick up your result and add it. Please ensure that you list “Dragons Running Club – Leeds” as your club when you enter an event though so we don’t miss you!

Some events get booked up quickly so enter soon so you don’t miss out!!!

How it works:

  • Our Club Championship is open to paid-up first-claim members
  • We use mostly local events
  • We encourage Dragons to wear our official Dragons Running tops
  • We will have the following awards:
    • 1st / 2nd / 3rd Place – age/gender adjusted (allowing all members to compete fairly with each other)
    • 1st placed Male
    • 1st placed Female
    • Sandra Stokes Captains’ Award (a discretionary award given by the captains to the person they feel is most deserving)
  • A minimum of 5 events must be completed in order to qualify for the awards
  • For contenders having completed in more than 5 events, their best 5 results will be used
  • Tiebreaks will be decided first by the number of events completed then greater age
  • Official race results will be used for calculations. Chip times will be used unless Race organiser is using ‘Gun to tape’ timing
  • For age grading adjustments, your age on 01/01/2023 will be used for each event and adjustments will be calculated using World Masters Athletics (WMA) grading formula
  • Gender adjustments are calculated by giving women a further 10% advantage
  • All members that compete in any of the events will be entered into a prize draw
  • Committee decisions are final in any dispute regarding the Club Championship
