Local Leagues

PECO Cross Country League

During the winter months, our Captains enter a team into the PECO Cross Country League.

The league is a series of 5 cross country races organised in and around Leeds in which clubs affiliated to the League compete across men’s and ladies divisions. Races take place November- March and each race is about 4-5 miles. The races are a great introduction to cross country running and with entrants of all abilities taking part, this always proves to be a friendly Sunday morning event.

harrogate & district summer race league

The HDSRL is one of the oldest racing leagues in this part of Yorkshire and Dragons Running Club has entered a team and competed since around 2001! There are usually 5 events each year put on by some of the participating clubs across West and North Yorkshire. There is often a buffet put on afterwards by those clubs that are able to do this, and if not, we Dragons will usually find a local establishment to take on a post-race refreshment anyway!

This year the events* are:

  • Knaresborough – Thurs 11 May (5 ish miles, starting at the beautiful Conyngham Hall next to the river)
  • Harrogate – Tues 23 May (probably 5.9 miles, around the Beckwithshaw area)
  • Dragons – Thurs 8 June (5.5 miles down into Esholt Woods)
  • Wetherby – Wed 21 June (approx 5 miles around the Sicklinghall area)
  • Ripon handicap – Thurs 20 July (approx 5.5 miles along quiet farm roads, tracks and paths through Studley Park, Studley village and surroundings including the seven bridges.

*The routes are those previously used by the host clubs so are highly likely to be the same but at the time of writing, the race details have not been shared.
